Lake Ouachita Map. During the spring time Striped Bass are preparing for the spawn which occurs when the water temperature reach the 55 degree range. As a rule fish head up stream to spawn and with this in mind your chances hooking the larger fish will be found in the west end and north side of the lake. Summer - June In the summer you can find fish settling into a pattern that will school fish together. The hotter it gets the more tightly bunched up they become.

Lake Ouachita Striper Guide
A black bass has a normal territory of approx. When fishing the grass look for little points, indentions, cutouts and especially the edges. The Bass will usually be laying right on the moss edge primarily in 12 to 18 feet of water. Spinnerbaits can be very effective from the surface to very deep water to fishing on the extreme bottom.
Lake Ouachita Striped Bass.
A towering bluff blocked the sunrise as small baitfish flipped and skipped on the surface of the water followed by quick blue, green and striped flashes from pursuing gamefish. Striped bass were murdering shad as our kayaks drifted into the melee. Since striped bass were released into Lake Ouachita, anglers from around the world have flocked to the central Arkansas lake to get in on the action. A short pedal from our headquarters at Mountain Harbor Resort and Spa, we caught smallmouth bass, largemouth, bluegill crappy and spotted bass, but we came for the trophy striped bass. The crystal clear water is perfect host to the striped bass, stocked shortly after the Blakely Mountain Dam created the lake.
Netting was completed in four nights of effort, an unusually short duration for the netting broodstock collection portion of the project. The AGFC return several female striped bass greater than 25 pounds to the lake which were not acceptable for spawning. Larger striper females have a lower ability to produce abundant and healthy offspring plus they are hard to handle.
