Friday 5th July — Sunday 7th July This hole stroke play championship is open to men who are 35 or over on the first day of the event. The full field will play 18 holes on each of the first two days. Then, the leading 45 competitors and ties will play a further 18 holes on the third day. The weather was wonderful and the course was in superb condition, but The Leicestershire Golf Club proved a tough test for the Logan Trophy competitors in round one, with just 6 of the players shooting under par. Nick Day won this championship by nine strokes last year and started his title defence by recording a solid first round score of one under par. Nick Day took the attention in the morning by matching his first round 69, and his leading overall score of two under par was matched by Calum Metcalfe and Geoff Harris.

The Amateur Championship sometimes referred to as the British Amateur or British Amateur Championship outside the UK is a golf tournament which has been held annually in the United Kingdom since except during the two World Wars, and in and when Ireland hosted the championship. It is one of the two leading individual tournaments for amateur golfers, alongside the U. It normally has the widest international representation of any individual amateur event, with 38 golf federations from all six continents represented in the championship. Before World War II it was regarded as one of golf's major championships , but given the modern dominance of the sport by professional golfers , this is no longer the case. The inaugural championship was held in by the Royal Liverpool Golf Club and was, for many years, regarded as an unofficial event. The tournament was played on 20, 21 and 23 April and was "open to all amateur members of recognised golf clubs". The format was match-play.
THE Scottish Golf Union has defended its decision to discontinue the Mid Amateur Championship and open the door for a commercial operator to launch a similar event for overs. Since then, other winners have included Glenn Campbell , Englishman Roger Roper and Allyn Dick and but the tournament was dropped from the SGU schedule last year due to a declining number of entries. It will be staged over 36 holes on one day, much shorter than the SGU event, which was held over four days and involved stroke-play qualifying over two rounds then match-play knock-out.
Pleasure in obtaining length is only a matter of relativity. I guess they don't have enough college players to motivate the over set to enter The British Mid-Amateur, first played in , restricts entry to male amateur golfers aged 25 and over.
